2026 elections: what deadlines remain after voting day?

The first round took place on October 4, 2026, and the runoff, where applicable, will be on October 25. Final campaign finance reports are due by November 3 for the first round and by November 14 for the runoff. After certification of the elected candidates, an action to annul the mandate may be filed within 15 days (art. 14, § 10, Brazilian Constitution). During the election period, deadlines also run on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays (art. 16, Complementary Law 64/1990).

What the law says

Main rules and deadlines

Candidate registration

A challenge to a registration must be filed within 5 days of its publication (Complementary Law 64/1990, art. 3).

Campaign finance

Reports deemed not filed block the electoral clearance certificate and may hinder a future candidacy.

Abuse of power

The electoral judicial investigation (AIJE) may be filed until certification (Complementary Law 64/1990, art. 22).

Mandate

An action to annul the mandate (AIME) may be filed within 15 days of certification, and an appeal against certification within 3 days.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you represent candidates from any party?

Yes. Our work is technical and non-partisan, and follows the legal profession’s conflict-of-interest rules.

I missed the campaign finance deadline. What now?

File the report even if late. Reports deemed not filed block the electoral clearance certificate, which may hinder a future candidacy.

What is the deadline to challenge an elected official?

It depends on the action: an AIJE may be filed until certification, an AIME within 15 days after certification, and an appeal against certification within 3 days.

Did the Clean Record Law change?

Yes. Complementary Law 219/2025 changed how the ineligibility period is counted. The change is under review by the Supreme Court, so each case needs an up-to-date analysis.

Can I prepare for the 2028 elections now?

Yes. Party membership, leaving incompatible positions, pre-campaign rules and ineligibility can be planned now.

How much does it cost?

After the analysis, the firm sends a written fee proposal before any engagement.
